Electrical lead for the new Tyree Energy Technology Building, which is the new flagship research facility at UNSW.  The new 18,000m2 building supports the university’s internationally recognized research and teaching in key energy areas including photovoltaic’s, carbon capture and storage. The building provides a formal learning space for 300 engineering students. Thiru worked in conjunction with FJMT architects to ensure the client’s objectives for reliability, adaptability, functionality and sustainable design are achieved. Key design features contributing to the 6 Star Green Star rating included an onsite tri-generation plant to offset the peak building load with additional electricity generation fed back into the University’s private HV ring main system. An onsite photovoltaic system also offset the building’s electrical load demands.

Thiru undertook effective stakeholder consultation with numerous University stakeholders to redefine the project brief and provide a cost-effective sustainable solution whilst catering for functionality and adaptability within the building.
